Dr. Nicole Hashemi engineers a blood brain barrier model that recapitulates the cylindrical microarchitecture of cerebral vessels and supports co-culture of essential BBB cell types, enabling applications in drug discovery and traumatic brain injury research. She also develops wearable sensing platforms capable of detecting disease-specific volatile organic compounds in Parkinson’s patients, advancing real-time, noninvasive diagnostics. Collectively, her work drives innovation in the modeling and detection of neurological disorders.
