Dr. Joan Coates is interested in the hereditary and acquired neurodegenerative diseases in domestic animals.  Her research includes canine degenerative myelopathy as a disease model for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis phenotyping, biomarkers, and therapeutic approaches.
